The Direct Debit Guarantee gives you the right to an immediate refund from your own bank if a Direct Debit is taken in error — the wrong amount, the wrong date, or a collection that should not have happened. This is called an indemnity claim, and it is worth understanding what it is for.
When an indemnity claim is the right tool
It is designed for genuine errors: a collection for more than we notified you, a payment taken after you settled, or a duplicate. In those cases your bank refunds you promptly, then works it out with us. See what the Direct Debit Guarantee covers and I was charged twice or an incorrect amount.
When it is not the right tool
An indemnity claim is not a way to avoid a payment that is genuinely due. Reversing a correct collection through a claim leaves the payment unpaid, which puts the account into arrears and can trigger fees. If you cannot afford a due collection, the right route is to talk to us before the date, not to claw a valid payment back afterwards — see my business cash flow is tight this month.
If you think a collection was wrong
Contact us first where you can — most errors are fixed faster directly than through a claim, and it keeps your account records clean. See how to check whether a payment has reached us and why did my Direct Debit amount change.
Credicorp lends to companies rather than to you personally, so this is business finance outside the consumer-credit regime. That does not change the practical steps below.
