Companies often trade under a name that differs from the registered company name, and that trading name can change without the legal entity changing at all. If you’ve rebranded or started trading as something new, you can record it so your statements and correspondence read the way you expect.
Legal name vs trading name
Your registered company name and number are what the agreement is with and what we verify against — those don’t change here. Your trading name is a display label. Updating it does not create a new agreement or affect anything you owe.
How to update it
- Go to Account > Company details > Trading name.
- Enter the trading name exactly as you use it publicly.
- Save — the change appears on future statements and communications.
If the registered company name has actually changed at Companies House, that’s a different, verified update — see the linked guide below.
Most of this is self-service in your customer portal, which is the fastest route and available at any time. Where a change needs our team to verify it, we say so and give a realistic turnaround so you can plan around it.
