What if my company name has an unusual character or format?

Enter your company name exactly as it appears on the Companies House register — punctuation, ampersands, "Limited" or "Ltd", and all. The one thing that matters is that it matches the official record, so verification is clean and there is no mismatch to slow things down.

Match the register

We check your company against Companies House, so a name typed differently from the register — "and" instead of "&", "Ltd" where the record says "Limited", a missing apostrophe — can cause a brief mismatch. Copying it exactly from your Companies House page avoids that. The reasoning is in why we check Companies House.

Registered name vs trading name

Use the registered name here, even if you trade under a different one day to day — what if my company trades under a different name explains how a trading name is handled.

If something still will not match

A stubborn mismatch is usually a formatting difference or a very recent change not yet on the register — what if my companys details have recently changed. If you are stuck, it is easily corrected and a person can help.

Apply with the exact registered name.
